Scandinavian design: with its simple and clean lines, the Volvo 142 was able to produce a beautiful, reliable and robust car, the Swedish trademark.
Quite elegant but lacking in originality, the 140 inaugurated a new Volvo line with a cubic body and three side windows, which would continue until the 1990s. The Volvo 144 also inaugurated several safety systems. In addition to bodywork with energy-absorbing crumple zones at the front and rear, it featured a unique brake system in which each braking circuit acted on three wheels. All four wheels were equipped with disc brakes. The passenger compartment had no protruding elements, and the driver and front passenger seats had seat belts.
