Renault R5 Turbo Sunset
Renault R5 Turbo Sunset
The Renault 5 Turbo is today a true French icon.
Intended for competition, the Régie's enfant terrible has the mission of succeeding the legendary R8 Gordini and other Alpine A 110s. The Renault Sport technicians are not going to beat around the bush.
The nice city car adopts a powertrain in a central rear position, a “noble” layout par excellence. The brave 1,397 cm³, from the R5 Alpine, receives the reinforcement of a Garrett turbocharger. A real cannonball, the little red car has 160 horsepower for an empty weight of 970 kg. It reaches more than 200 km/h at top speed, delivering accelerations that are as violent as they are unpredictable due to the response time of the turbo, with the power arriving suddenly on the rear wheels alone.
